Although main streamline of Centers activities in fight against VAW we have great expertise providing specially design program for women to support or start their business. In 2007 we initiated project “Lets do business” which was acknowledged by EU as one of the most important support for vulnerable women groups. Today over 400 unemployed or socially isolated women were trained and we continue providing trainings to different groups. WIIC works in violence against women field since 1996, initiates major national and international public campaigns such as 16 days, V-Day, Taking back the night campaign in Lithuania etc. Center cooperates with police, social workers and other stakeholder institutions in Lithuania and abroad. WIIC also provides free legal aid to woman. We work with victims of violence on every day basis. Our experience of work with vulnerable women will contribute to overall aim of the project and we expect to gain more knowledge and creative inspirations during learning partnerships. Most attractive international project implemented by Women's Issues Information Center involving empowerment of young people are LOGINN and Y4Y. Youth4Youth project aimed to prevent and combat gender-based violence among adolescents, a number of peer education training workshops were implemented in both public and private secondary education schools in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, and Spain. The project developed and promoted the peer education methodology as a tool to empower young people to become actively involved in developing an environment free from violence for themselves as well as for their peers. LOGINN objective is to prevent and fight gender-based violence through the promotion, among teen-agers, of responsible behaviours in the use they do of social networks and new media.
Specifically - to study the role of social networks, new media, chats, SMS, mobile telephones, etc. in the everyday life of adolescents and how relations between girls and boys develop through them; to design and test, through pilot actions, a methodology able to involve young people in a peer education activity, using social networks and new media for the promotion of gender equality values etc. Several hundreds of young people are involved.
Experience with migrant groups Women's Issues Information Center builds since 2005. Today we created extensive empowerment Programe FORWARD based on migration experience - A competence-based approach to improve the social inclusion of migrant women.
Currently we are trying to reach new alliances and networks for cross sect oral cooperation. We believe that gender equality message could be delivered in various forms and initiatives. We would like to share and learn more about cultural cooperation activities and looking for potential partners for few new project ideas.
