The Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a key donor of WECF water and sanitation programmes in the Eastern European, Caucasus & Central Asian region and in Afghanistan. The department of European Cooperation has funded 6 three year programmes in Belarus, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Russia and Ukraine since 1996 which focused on involving local communities in decision making and multi-stakeholder cooperation for safer and better management of local natural resources.
