Toxic emissions from fire in hazardous waste incinerator in Chropyne (Czech Rep.)

Big fire in hazardous waste incinerator in Chropyne started this
morning. Incinerator and toxics waste stock is burning, local
government is asking people to stay in the house and close the windows,
because of escaping toxic gases, cloud of black smoke and inversion.
Incinerator is in complex of PVC-processor TECHNOPLAST, 7 units of fire
brigades and special "chemical unit" are fighting against fire. News
portal NOVINKY.cz is reporting about problem with blasts of barrels of
volatile combustible waste, which are endangering rescue teams directly
- quoting spokesman of fire brigades Mr. Ivo Mitacek. He explained,
that is not first fire in same incinerator, several smaller fires
happened this year.
Greenpeace Czech blocked incinerator for 1 day in May 2001, because releases of dioxins were 150 x higher than EU limit.
"We improve the direct living conditions of a few thousand people. Through our advocacy work we reach out to millions".
