Training conference “Water and Sanitation” in October 2007 in Belarus

On 26 and 27 October 2007 WECF together with its local partner Ecoproject Partnership from Belarus conducted a training on water and sanitation. 25 participants (representatives from NGOs, schools and local authorities) were trained on water treatment and Ecosan toilets in Zhdanovichy/Belarus. Two international experts (Margriet Samwel and Stefan Deegener) and one local expert (Vladimir Anufriev) gave presentations on the issue with examples from German and Belarusian experiences and held different workshops. 8 samples of water were tested on nitrate concentration.

The working groups allowed the participants to start identifying which proposed technologies and processes could be a solution to the concrete problems of the different communities that took part in the base-line studies. By this exercise and the two following trainings on waste and energy potential demonstration projects will be developed.

Three participants already expressed interest to establish Ecosan toilets in their households or communities. The representatives of schools decided to prepare a lesson for their children based on the materials of the training section “water resources and sanitation”. And the Ecological Club of Beloozersk expressed its interest to write an article in the local newspaper about this event.

The next training conference on waste will take place on 7 and 8 December 2007 in Minsk.

The agenda for this training conference can be found here
