Olga Speranskaya, director of the Chemical Safety Program at the Eco Accord Center, WECF member organisation, became one of six prize winners of the Goldman Prize. This prize is often referred to as Nobel Prize in environmental protection area. Olga Speranskaya, 46-year-old physicist, is the driving force behind non governmental group Eco Accord, that works to identify, reduce and safely store chemical stockpiles in Russia and the republics of the former Soviet Union.
Over the past few years Speranskaya has helped NGOs implement more than 70 projects on toxic chemicals in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. For her tireless work, she is being honoured with the Goldman Environmental Prize. The Goldman Prize recognises individuals for sustained and significant efforts to protect and enhance the natural environment, often at great personal risk.
