WECF Germany awards each week a person of public interest who has made an ignorant remark on nuclear energy. Nuclear power is  again in Germany, since the elections, an  issue of the public debate.

The award is to attract attention to all sorts of unfounded remarks being made in public about nuclear energy, especially when nuclear energy is portrayed as "sustainable" energy, which it can never be. The "Golden Brennstab" is a candle which WECF sends to the "winner" by post, accompanied by the press release, as a way to raise awareness amongst policy makers and the general public about the many false arguments used to make nuclear energy seem more acceptable.

In week 42 the first price winner was Joachim Pfeiffer from the German Christian-Democrat Party.
