Former WECF International Advisory Board Member Olga Speranskay was elected Champion of the Earth this week. Olga presented her first projects on POPs chemicals in the year 2000 at a WECF conference in the Hague
Below is Olgaís acceptance speech then press conference speech, where she did nothing short of elevating the work all IPEN members do to fight for a toxics-free future.
Olga delivered this speech tonight in New York City as ministers and heads of state from across the globe are convening in New York to discuss the environment and sustainable development, and potential action for Rio +20. While the other four 2011 Champions/award winners (including the President of Mexico) were acknowledged for their work on climate change, Olga was the sole Champion recognized for achievements related to toxics and chemicals.
