Last year in October, 2011, the Ukranian Youth Non-Profit organization and WECF partner Ecoclub carried out training in Odessa on how to install solar collectors. A few months later in December, it was followed by a demonstration and a presentation of the successfully installed devices in the district of Volyn.

The constructers of the solar collectors have clearly shown their appreciation and enthusiasm about the idea and the fact that “the system really works”. Thanks to this newly implemented technology, it is now possible to fully heat a tank of water within a few hours. In addition, the constructors were also presented with a financial support covering half of the expenses for the material and labour costs (1200 UAH, ca. 117 EUR). The other half of the estimated total cost ranging between 2500 – 4000 UAH (ca. 243 – 389 EUR) is to be provided by the constructors themselves.

During the presentation, the Ecoclub representative Oskana Maiboroda gave an account of the activities that have been conducted in the district of Manevychi as well as the future plans and perspectives of the project “Switch to Sun – Live in Comfort”. Nevertheless, she also stressed the importance of the further monitoring and analyzing of the data from the solar collectors operating during the summer and winter period. The aim of gathering this information is to examine how one can achieve greater efficiency of the devices. Further, Ms. Maiboroda also explained the significance of collecting baseline information on the energy consumption of the local residents.
