International Project Nesting - A Healthy Environment for Healthy Children
Helping parents to create a safe and healthy environment for their newborns
01.09.2008 | WECF Campaign
| Countries: | Germany, UK, Netherlands, Greece, Hungary, France |
| Donors: | European Commission DG-Environment |
| Partners: | Clean Up Greece, Large Families Association Hungary, WECF France, WECF UK, WECF Netherlands, WECF Germany |
| Issues: | Chemicals & Health |
| Duration: | 09/2008 - 12/2013 |

When expecting a baby, you start wondering, planning and questioning. Things are changing and exciting times are ahead. Everything should be ready for the child. It should feel snug and safe in its new home, its nest. That is why Project Nesting wants to support you in all the new and important decisions on: renovating, furniture and the start of your life together with your baby.
An environment free of hazardous chemicals, tobacco smoke and mould and a space with safe furniture becomes a priority. It is in such times of transition that paretns are more critical of their behavioural patterns. They are more likely to change to environmental friendly, healthier and safer products in order to protect the health of their newborn. The Nesting project provides them with positive tips and increases the awareness of parents regarding specific information as well as suggesting alternative solutions.
Interactive website
An interactive website has been created to educate and mobilize new parents to change to sustainable and safe consumption patterns providing information on indoor pollution as well as environmentally safe solutions.
Seven countries
Partners in seven countries have contributed to the success of the nesting concept. In 2007 they translated the website into
In the course of 2010 an Estonian version will follow. Due to differences in mentality and local babyculture, the website content is culturally sensitive and differs per country.
