Parma 2010: WECF responds to attack by Russian Asbestos Industry Association
The Russian Asbestos Industry attacks WECF for promoting substitution of chrysotile asbestos, in the last days leading up to the Parma Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health

Reporting on the preparations to the Parma ministerial conference on environment and health, WECF stated the need to phase-out asbestos, - still a commonly used building material in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA). The Russian Asbestos Industry sent a letter (see download) to WECF, in which it implies that the authors of the draft ministerial declaration are motivated by industry interests.
WECF answer to the Asbestos Industry states that WECF has tested chrysotile asbestos used in EECCA countries, that it is the same asbestos which has been banned in 45 countries, and that we find it unethical of the Russian asbestos industry not to inform their workers and public on the great health risks of asbestos. WECF also calls on the Russian government to support a just transition scheme for asbestos workers.

Ответ WECF на атаку Российской Ассоциации Асбестной Индустрии
Подготавливая отчет о подготовке к министерской конференции по окружающей среде и охране здоровья в Парме, WECF озвучила необходимость прекратить производство асбеста, который все еще широко используется в качестве строительного материала в Восточной Европе, на Кавказе и в Средней Азии.
Российская Асбестная Индустрия направила письмо WECF, в котором она указывает, что WECF финансово поддерживается интересами западной индустрии, против которых Русская экономика должна себя защитить. В ответ WECF указала, что она протестировала используемый в вышеуказанных странах асбест, который оказался запрещенным материалом в 45 странах; и что она считает неэтичным тот факт, что Русская Асбестная Индустрия не информирует своих рабочих и общество об огромных рисках для здоровья, связанных с асбестом. WECF также призывает Российское правительство поддержать справедливую переходную схему для людей, которые работают с асбестом.
