Findings of a literature study: Plastics, Gender and the Environment

Lifecycle of plastics and its impacts on women and men from production to (marine) litter

The main objectives of the small scale funding agreement and UNEP for the literature study “Gender and Plastics Management” were: to conduct research on the links between gender and plastics consumption and production, with focus on the impacts of the chemicals used in plastic production on human health, as well as the roles of women and men as agents of change in reducing the impacts of plastics on the environment (especially marine environment) and human health.

Results of this research will provide information to support the content development of the UNEA Study on Marine plastic debris and microplastics, and the GGEO (Chapter of State, Trends and Impacts) in sections related to sustainable consumption and production, gender and ocean protection, land management, and waste management.
