 WECF REACH activities: Get involved!
Previous events:
Women watch MEPs take REACH vote in Strasbourg, 17 November 2005 WECF and a women's delegation from UK, Hungary, Greece, Latvia, Germany and the Netherlands went to Strasbourg from 14-17 November to use the opportunity to convince their MEPs to vote for mandatory substitution. While we're at it we also used the opportunity to highlight continuous problems with chemicals in Europe. Without a strong REACH that beings reliable safety information about chemicals to the table, a healthy future will remain off site.
WECF builds toxic mountain in Munich, 31.10.05. WECF in Munich invited the press to the Marienplatz, Munich's central square, where they had constructed a toxic mountain out of chemical drums. Chemical sludge flowed from a drum to form a chemical lake with many household and everyday products lying in it. Photographers and a television station were on hand to document the pressaction. See photo below.

Women for REACH training, 13-15 June 2005, Brussels Some 23 women from 8 different EU member states came together in Brussels to learn more about REACH and to train their advocacy skills. Testing what they learned immediately, women met with MEP Hiltrud Breyer, the Rapporteur/ draftswoman on the REACH proposal in the Parliament’s Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee (FEMM) on 13 June and their national parliamentarians on 15 June.
International Women’s Day Activity: Frauen werden giftig! 8 March 2005, Berlin, Germany
A coalition of WECF and eleven women’s, health and environmental NGO’s in Germany organised an action on the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March in BerGin. The German minister for the environment Jürgen Trittin came by to discussed the need for a strong REACH with participants. Together with our two Polish partners the Socio-Ecological Institute (SEI) and Karat Coalition we invited women from all across to Poland to a one day conference addressing the issue of chemicals. The day started early with an appearance on Polish Breakfast Television and ended with giving a lot of interviews and an agreement on the need for a strong chemicals legislation to protect Polisch women and their families. One month later our partners joined the Polish NGO Coalition working on REACH. We all met up again in in Warsaw in February 2005 for a more detailed workshop on chemicals and REACH.
