Save Our Potatoes
The Great GM Free Potatoe Celebration will be held in Poland and the Netherlands in October
21.09.2010 |International Coalition to Protect the Polish Countryside
Moving on from the successful 'Great Picnic for a GMO Free Poland' held this summer, we are now preparing to stage "The Great GM Free Potato Celebration" on October 9 and 10 2010.
As you are probably aware, the first open air trials of a 'blight resistant'
strain of genetically engineered potato are currently taking place in the UK. This follows the announcement earlier this year of the creation of BASF's "Amflora", the first strain of GM potato to be grown commercially.
It does not require much imagination to realise what will happen once this GM strain cross contaminates the existing potato stock.
Colleagues in the Netherlands have agreed to stage anti GM potato actions on the same week end (October 9/10) as we will be active in Poland. So how about your Country?
Its a crucial time to get the message out "Save Our Potatoes!"
So please heed this wake up call. In Poland we will be lighting fires and cooking GM free jacket potatoes and other special potato dishes; making many small events/happenings that will create a network of actions in many places - to highlight the threat to our most widely eaten food staple.
Let's join in solidarity right across Europe in demanding an end to the corporate GM experiment!
Please send us your plans for actions and we will put them up on our website. For inspiration see picnic website http://wielkipiknik.pl/?page_id=666&lang=en

With best wishes,
